TA’ANG (PALAUNG) UPDATES by the PSLF/TNLA News and Information Department August 25 to September 12 in 2016

      These are facts of fighting between TNLA, RCSS/SSA and Myanmar Military (Tatmadaw) started from August 25th to September 12nd in 2016. The fighting getting more aggressive before and after Panglong’s Conference and TNLA has been dealing with hardship situation in their own territory. September 12, 2016

     A furious battle took place from 1140 to 1445 hours at a place between Man-main and Man-nar villages on September 12, between the RCSS troops on offensive and the TNLA troops.

     The battle took place, because the RCSS amassed manpower in Namtu Township and, in a renewed aggression, came into the TNLA operational area. As the RCSS troops, launching offensive against the TNLA, suffered a thrashing, they withdrew towards Namtu Town. In clearing the battle field, the TNLA troops found a corpse in RCSS uniform and captured one M-16 rifle and some M-16 ammunition.

Clashes Continued between TNLA and MT Troops

September 10, 2016

     A head-on battle took place between the troops of TNLA Battalion-223 and MT Div-33 from 0700 t0 0730 hours, near Naung-kong village of Kutkai Township, Brigade-5 Area, Ta’ang Region. The head-on battle took place, because the MT troops, in offensive, came into the operational area of the TNLA.

The MT sent in a reinforcement of 100 troops into the area and the situation is still in a tense state.

Whole-Day battle Took Place between Troops of TNLA and RCSS/SSA

     A furious battle took place between troops of TNLA Battalion-478 and RCSS/SSA, from 0600 to 1900 hours, near Mine-yoat village of Man-tong Township, Brigade-1 Area, Ta’ang Region.

     The head-on battle took place, when the RCSS troops advanced, in offensive move, towards the location of the TNLA troops, after a concentrated bombardment with heavy weapons. The TNLA troops’ stiff resistance led to the whole day battle.

       There is a sporadic exchange of fire between the two sides up until nightfall now. There are casualties on both sides, but details are still not known.

Two Battles in One Day between TNLA and MT Troops

September 7, 2016

     Today, September 7, two battles took place between troops of the TNLA and MT in Kutkai Township, Brigade-2 Area, Ta’ang Region.

     From 1100 to 1200 hours, the TNLA troops from Battalion-223 and MT Div-33 troops clashed at a place between Pan-ku and Pan-long villages of Kutkai Township, Brigade-5 Area, and from 1720 to 1800 hours, the TNLA Battalion-666 troops and MT troops under MOC clashed at a place between Pa-lain and Tawkwet villages of Mine-long Sub-township, Kyaukme Township, Brigace-2 Area.

     The local populations are concerned especially about the possibility of the clashes becoming more intense, as the MT has been replenishing its strength in the Ta’ang Region constantly with man power, arms, ammunition and food supplies.

Myanmar Tatmadaw (MT) Heavy-Weapon Fire Wounded Two Ho-nar Villagers

August 25, 2016

     Incessant heavy-weapon fires into and around Law-chay, Ho-nar and Kaung-tat villages by MT troops, from Sa-kan-thit Camp situated at the upper side of Namt Kham Town, hit U Aik Yun and wounded U Aik Yun’s father U Aik Hsaing (aged 50) in the thigh, who was inside the house, and similarly a heavy-weapon shell exploding in the compound of Mine Lom Aung and wounded Mine Lom Aung’s father (aged 72) in the leg, who was standing in the compound.

     It is learnt that though the 2 wounded villagers were sent to Namt Kham hospital for treatment, they were transferred to Muse hospital as the injury was serious.

     The Myanmar Tatmadaw shelled the said area incessantly, after the battle between troops of the TNLA Battalion-571 and MT Division-33. Also after dark now, the MT is shelling into the area intermittently.

Battle between TNLA and MT

August 25, 2016

      A head-on battle took place from 1800 to 1845 hours between troops of the Ta’ang National Liberation Army (TNLA) Battalion-571 and Myanmar Tatmadaw (MT) Div- 33 at a place between Kaung-Tat and Ho-nan villages in Namt Kham Township, Brigade-1 Area, Ta’ang Region.

     The battle took place, because the MT Di-33 troops came to fire on the TNLA troops while they were conducting an area control operation. After the battle, the MT troops fired heavy weapons incessantly into the area, where the battle took place, from Sa-kan-thit Camp situated at the upper side of Namt Kham Town. It is still not known if the shelling caused damage to buildings and animals.
